Searching for a taste of home through one of Spain’s most iconic dishes, the humble Tortilla, brother and sister duo Gabriel and Marta, launched Broken Eggs, a delivery-only restaurant offering authentic expertly-prepared Spanish tortillas, alongside starters, salads, cheese, charcuterie and an indulgent dessert, for a meal that will transport you straight to España!
Six months ago Gabriel decided to quit his job in Investment Banking and start up a Spanish food brand with his sister Marta. With Gabriel’s expertise and Marta’s background in graphic design and hospitality they came together to offer London, a unique and authentic Spanish experience.
Broken Eggs was born from the nostalgia of their Mediterranean roots and culture, a yearn for homemade, tasty food and their passion for sharing moments with others. In Spain food is a very important part of culture, it is a way of socialising and connecting with others. This brand is exactly about that, the simple things in life and sharing moments with loved ones.
Tortillas are a modest dish, but they are also very playful and versatile. You can have them any time of the day breakfast, lunch and dinner and it can be something as casual as grabbing a slice and making a ciabatta sandwich - they call it ‘Bocadillo’-, while being at work, or it can be the star dish of a special gathering or party.
At Broken Eggs, food feels truly authentic, the attention to detail, the quality of ingredients and delicious flavours come together creating a premium brand.
When did you start using compostable packaging and what sparked this decision?
We wanted to create a brand with strong values which creates long term value for all stakeholders, therefore sustainability is a fundamental pilar for us. We used 100% compostable packaging straight from the beginning and our impact on the planet is really important for us. We want to work with our suppliers to continue to find more sustainable solutions, and our goal is to become more and more sustainable as we grow.
We spent quite a lot of time to researching compostable packaging supplier and after talking to various suppliers, we realised BioPak was the right partner for us.
What makes BioPak products a good fit for your business?
We came to BioPak with a packaging problem that we wanted to solve and they were able to provide a solution for it. They have a good product suite and a really strong customer support team. They remain close to us and help us, which is really appreciated as a small business.
Do you find that your customers are interested in hearing about your packaging, where it’s come from and the benefits it has on the environment?
Definitely, customers are increasingly interested in hearing about packaging and how businesses are thinking about the environment. It's at the forefront of consumer decision these days, no doubt.
Are there any tips you could give to companies that haven’t made the switch to plastic-free products, or maybe are thinking about it but aren’t sure where to start?
It’s not difficult to find suitable substitutes for plastic these days, so there are less excuses than 5/10 years ago. Its about making a conscious decision that switching to plastic free will create long term value for the business.
