We’re Proudly B Corp Certified. But how does that shape the way we work, support our customers and community, and impact the world around us?
A series of local and global destructive events have made it clear that ‘business as usual’ isn’t an option anymore. ‘How can we create a new business model for the economy?’ has become a burning question.
The B Corp movement has been pioneering a new way of doing business, which requires increased stewardship and a real shift in priorities. BioPak is a B Corp because we believe in profit for purpose, using business as a force for good.
The B Corp movement began in 2006 to turn ‘business as usual’ on its head – a way of transforming the global economy to prioritise not just profit, but all people, communities and the planet.
At BioPak, we’re a B Corp because we believe in using business as a force for good.
What Is B Corp?
B Corporations (or B Corps) meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, and public transparency.
They’re a community of businesses leading the way toward a new – better – global economy, one that balances profit with purpose.
Importantly, being a B Corp isn’t a vague commitment. B Corps are legally required to consider the interests of all of their stakeholders when making decisions—customers, workers, suppliers, communities, investors, and the environment. This is called stakeholder governance, and it ensures that businesses are accountable to people and the planet.
What are Certified B Corporations?
Certified B Corporations (or B Corps) are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, and public transparency.
A Global Movement
BioPak is one of over 9,500 Certified B Corps, operating across 160 industries in more than 102 countries around the world. Big and small, we stand alongside iconic companies like Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Ecosia and The Body Shop.

How Does B Corp Work?

Becoming a B Corp is a rigorous certification process – and so it should be.
Businesses start their journey towards becoming a B Corp by completing the B Impact Assessment (BIA), which is a free tool designed to help holistically measure business performance and impact across five pillars:
- Governance
- Community
- Environment
- Workers
- Customers
To certify, a business must achieve a benchmark score of 80 or above and agree to legal certification requirements. To maintain certification, B Corps update their BIA and verify their updated score every three years.

What B Corp Means to Us
BioPak began in 2006 with a mission to address the growing impact of single-use plastic packaging – so ‘doing better business’ has been woven into our business model from the beginning.
In 2017, we cemented this commitment and became B Corp Certified. We saw a B Corp Certification as a means to improve our operations, learn from fellow B Corps, and implement best industry practices. +
No company is perfect, but since becoming B Corp certified, we’ve taken some big steps to incorporate a triple bottom line of ‘People, Planet, Profits’ into our DNA. It’s shaped the way we work. We’re committed to rigorous third party certifications, combating greenwashing, donating 5% of profits to our Give Back Fund, and embracing radical transparency through our Environmental Impact Label, to name a few. The B Impact Assessment tool and the recertification process provide a roadmap to continuously improve how we do business.
This video was filmed in 2018, a year after we became B Corp certified. While our business has changed a lot since this time, our ethos and team attitudes haven’t.
BioPak Group: Three B Corps Coming Together
In 2024, BioPak took a significant step forward by establishing the BioPak Group and welcoming two exceptional B Corps into its global portfolio: Huskee and decent packaging.
Huskee designs functional and beautiful reusable products made from waste and recycled materials, while decent packaging makes sustainability simple through plant-based packaging for the specialty coffee market.
This strategic expansion reflects our shared commitment to transforming the food and beverage industry through circular economy principles, sustainable packaging, and consumer education.

Together With Our Customers
All businesses can be a force for good. Together, progress is faster, goals are easier, and our biggest dreams become reality.
We wanted to give a special shoutout to our B Corp customers Pablo & Rusty’s, Heaps Normal, Five Senses, Rumble Coffee Roasters, Mikro Coffee Roasters, Dishoom, Pizza Pilgrims, and Different Dog, who are leading the way in coffee, brewing, hospitality, pet food, and beyond.
Alone we are a business, together we are a movement.

Celebrating B Corp Month: We Are #GenB
Every year in March, the B Corp community comes together to celebrate what it means to be B Corp. B Corps are part of a new generation of thought leaders who are creating a better future today. We call it #GenB.
In B Corp month in 2025, we volunteered with MedEarth, packing recovered medical supplies for those in need, hit the streets in London to tackle litter, and proudly supported the Dementia Research Community's Bondi2Byron Ride, where over 40 riders cycled 1,000km for an incredible cause.

How Can You Get Involved?
The ‘B Economy’ is much greater than just all B Corps. It’s built by everyone who works for, buys from, invests in, learns or teaches about, or supports businesses striving to create shared and durable prosperity for all.
Here’s how you can get involved:

By choosing brands that align with their values, shoppers are voting with their wallets for the kinds of businesses they want in the world. Look for the B Corp Logo or find a local B Corp here.

Even if your company doesn’t reach a score of 80, B Impact Assessment can be used as a framework for continuous improvement.
How Big is the B Corp Movement?
B Corps is a truly global movement. There are over 5000 Certified B Corps operating in 154 industries across 79 countries. Big or small, companies from many industries are certified B Corps, including iconic ones like Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Ecosia and The Body Shop.
Australia and New Zealand is the fastest-growing region for B Corps with 470 companies certified currently from 46 different industries.

This is a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good. For instance, over 500 B Corps have publicly committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions to achieve net-zero by 2030 at the UN Climate Change Conference COP25 in Madrid. This is 20 years ahead of the 2050 targets set in the Paris Agreement.
Why BioPak i a Certified B Corp?
We share the values of the B Corp community and we believe that the framework provided by the B Impact Assessment is the perfect roadmap to create a better way to do business. BioPak was founded with a mission to address the environmental impact of single-use disposable packaging made from fossil-based plastic and has been a certified B Corp since 2018. No company is perfect but being part of this global movement has helped us define a formal plan to improve on several fronts, learn from fellow B Corps and implement industry best practices.
Certifications matter because they affirm that a company’s claims have passed specific performance, sustainability and quality assurance tests and have been verified by a third party. In an industry rife with false and misleading environmental claims, being a certified B Corp provides consumers with a level of trust with regards to the ethos of the business. But more than a solid marketing attribute, it has also helped incorporate a triple bottom line of ‘People Planet Profits’ into the business DNA. The B Impact Assessment tool and the recertification process provide a roadmap to continuously improve how we do business.
BioPak is also part of the B Local Sydney committee, which runs a local chapter dedicated to growing an active community of Sydney-based Certified B Corps.
