Northern Territory (NT) retailers must not give out lightweight, checkout-style plastic bags, including degradable bags, detailed on the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority website

September 2011 (Shopping Bag Ban)

BANNED: Plastic bags with handles made of polyethylene polymer less than 35 microns thick.
EXEMPT: Compostable bags that meet the Australian Standard AS4736-2006, including BioPak bioplastic bags.
