Takeaway Coffee Cups for the Circular Economy
Looking to buy disposable coffee cups online? Not all paper coffee cups are created equal. Many traditional takeaway coffee cups are made from paper sourced from old-growth forests and lined with plastic derived from fossil fuels.
Aqueous BioCups
Our Aqueous cups are made with a unique water-based coating and are Certified Home Compostable to Australian Standards (AS5810). The coating is printed like water-based ink, allowing it to be absorbed into the paper fibres rather than sitting on top as an additional layer. This reduces the amount of material needed, while providing the same leak and grease-proof benefits as other coatings.
PLA Bioplastic Lined BioCups
We make our paper cups from premium paper lined with bioplastic – a type of plastic made from plants like corn and cassava. The heavy-duty construction of our bioplastic-lined cups delivers excellent stability, insulation and a snug lid fit. We print each single wall takeaway cup using non-toxic water or soy-based inks. Due to the bioplastic lining, these cups are Certified Industrially Compostable to Australian Standards (AS4736).
Art Series Single Wall BioCups
Celebrating creativity in every cup. Our Art Series Single Wall BioCups feature artwork by talented artists from around the world. They’re lined with bioplastic made from plants, not oil, and are Certified Industrially Compostable to Australian Standards (AS4736).
Single or Double Wall Coffee Cups?
When it comes to insulated coffee cups, there are two options: single wall and double wall. Single wall coffee cups have one layer of paper, while double wall cups have two. This makes our single wall cups for hot drinks a lightweight, sustainable and cost-effective option. The lower weight and more compact carton size of single wall cups reduces transport-related emissions. Learn about the difference between single wall and double wall coffee cups.
The Reality of 'Biodegradable' Cups
The world uses billions of disposable paper or plastic cups every single year – and the market is only growing. A staggering amount of this single-use packaging ends up in landfill.
Brands often use the term ‘biodegradable’ in packaging claims, but it can be misleading or greenwashing. Technically, almost anything can biodegrade over time – even conventional plastic – but that doesn’t mean it breaks down properly or safely. Instead, many so-called biodegradable items simply degrade into harmful microplastics.
In addition, there’s no independent certification governing the use of the term ‘biodegradable’, leaving consumers in the dark about what it really means.
Instead of calling them biodegradable coffee cups, we opt for phrases like Certified Compostable Cups which can be backed up by certifications.
Are Your Single Wall Cups Considered 'Eco-Friendly' Cups?
Are you looking for ‘eco-friendly packaging’ to reduce your environmental impact? Our customers often refer to our takeaway cups and sustainable packaging as ‘eco-friendly’ or ‘environmentally friendly.’ However, we choose to steer away from this phrase to prevent greenwashing. Instead, we opt for phrases like Certified Compostable Cups, which can be substantiated and backed up by certifications.
Choose Certified Compostable Cups Today
At BioPak, we recognised that ‘biodegradable’ wasn’t enough to tackle the world’s growing waste crisis. That’s why we took a fresh approach – creating certified compostable cups designed for a circular economy. When these coffee cups are paired with compostable coffee cup lids, they can be sent to home or industrial compost facilities to break down.
To fully realise the benefits of compostable packaging, correct disposal – in a compost facility and not landfill – is essential. To promote correct disposal, we launched Compost Connect. Compost Connect is a composting platform connecting foodservice businesses to commercial organic waste pick-up services. With 23 compost partners servicing 2,200+ postcodes across Australia and New Zealand, businesses can search their postcode to find out if an organics collection is available in their area.
