To celebrate World Rainforest Day, BioPak is giving our traditional leaf cups a fresh new look, due to arrive in September 2024.
Our new Rainforest Rescue Leaf BioCup Series will highlight three unique real-world leaves, drawing inspiration from Australia’s rainforests. Now, you can savour your morning coffee and learn something new about Australian flora.
Real-World Leaves From Australia’s Rainforests
Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata)
Found in Queensland, Australia and other tropical regions around the world, Ylang Ylang is a fast-growing tree valued for its fragrance. The flowers of Ylang Ylang can be used to produce a fragrant oil for perfume products – earning the name ‘Queen of Perfumes.’

Fun Fact: Known as the “Queen of Perfumes”, the fruit of Ylang Ylang is popular amongst Cassowaries and Fruit Pigeons.
Bleeding Heart (Homalanthus novo-guineensis)
Bleeding Heart is a small shrub predominantly found in Australia. It’s a fast-growing species, making it an excellent natural pioneer used in rainforest restoration projects across Far North Queensland.

Fun Fact: Bleeding Heart is the favourite food of Australia's biggest moth larva - the Hercules Moth.
Flame Tree (Brachychiton acerifolius)
The Flame Tree is a large deciduous tree, endemic to tropical and subtropical regions on the east coast of Australia. It’s a real beauty, known for its bright red bell-shaped flowers that cover the tree. The leaves vary in shape and colour and can have up to five lobes.

Fun Fact: The Flame Tree sheds its leaves when its bright red, bell-shaped flowers emerge, giving the entire tree a striking appearance.
A Rainforest Rescue Collaboration
Rainforest Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting and restoring rainforests. Since 1999, Rainforest Rescue has been purchasing rainforest properties of high conservation value, as well as taking part in planting, maintenance and weed removal activities.
BioPak has partnered with Rainforest Rescue since 2012, donating 1% of our profits. Through Rainforest Rescue, we've planted and safeguarded 90,947 trees and reclaimed five hectares of endangered Daintree Rainforest.
Our Rainforest Rescue Leaf BioCup Series celebrates this ongoing collaboration. We worked closely with Rainforest Rescue to select species of interest to feature on our cups.
