BioPak recently collaborated with Live Nation UK, the global leader in live entertainment, to support their ambitious environmental goals. BioPak provided certified compostable packaging for Live Nation's UK festivals and outdoor concerts during the summer of 2024, helping reduce their environmental impact and promoting a circular economy.
This initiative aligns with Live Nation’s Green Nation programme, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and phase out single-use plastics across all its events and venues.
Streamlining Festivals with Sustainable Packaging
As part of this exclusive deal, traders and caterers at Live Nation UK events, including festivals hosted by Festival Republic between May and August 2024, received a discount on BioPak’s certified home and industrially compostable foodservice packaging. These products are designed to align with Live Nation’s sustainability goals, ensuring all food and beverage packaging is either reusable, recyclable, or made from renewable resources.
Sam Walker, BioPak’s Technical Director, emphasised the importance of this collaboration, stating: “This alliance further cements BioPak’s position in the sustainable food packaging industry as the preferred supplier. Our packaging solutions help operators reduce the environmental impact of live events.”
He added: “The deal will give confidence to Live Nation, Festival Republic and all traders and crew caterers that the food packaging at their events meets the stringent policies helping the operators reduce the environmental impact of live events.”

Live Nation’s Commitment to a Circular Economy
Live Nation's Sustainability Charter outlines their approach to reducing emissions, energy use, waste, and resource efficiency. Their goal is to create zero waste venues and events, as well as achieve a 50% material recovery rate by 2030. With BioPak’s support, all packaging at their events will contribute to these targets by being either certified compostable or recyclable.
Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic, spoke about Live Nation’s approach:
“Music is a great catalyst for empowering others to reduce our environmental impact and change lives. We have the opportunity and responsibility to provide all - our artists, fans and partners - with an experience that protects our planet.”
Tracking Environmental Impact with BioPak
To ensure their goals are met, Live Nation utilised BioPak’s Environmental Impact Label, which provides detailed data on the packaging carbon emissions and their impact on biodiversity, material scarcity, and human health. This data-driven approach allows Live Nation to accurately track the environmental footprint of their events and adjust their strategies accordingly.
Sam Walker explained, “BioPak’s industry-leading Environmental Impact Label details the carbon emissions, biodiversity effects, raw materials scarcity, and human health impacts of our products. This data enables clients such as Live Nation to see the actual environmental footprint of their events in ways unmatched by other suppliers.”

A Sustainable Future for Live Events
Live Nation’s Sustainability Charter is centred around eight key areas, including emissions reduction, energy efficiency, waste management, and responsible procurement. With BioPak’s support, Live Nation has set a new standard for festivals and outdoor events, focusing on reusable and recyclable resources to minimise waste and reduce their carbon footprint.
The partnership also involves working with waste management teams to ensure that all food waste and packaging is collected, composted, or recycled, helping create a circular business model that benefits both the environment and the live events industry.
As Melvin Benn put it: “By setting sustainability standards at our concerts, venues, and festivals, we are leading the live events industry. A key element in our strategy is the use of certified compostable food packaging, which helps us achieve our goals to phase out single-use plastic and at least a 50% material recovery rate by 2030. With the support of BioPak, we are committed to working towards a world without waste.”
