From 1 July 2021, all businesses within the Hobart municipality will need to replace all single-use plastics, which are smaller than 1-litre capacity, with reusable or compostable packaging alternatives.
Compostable Packaging Accepted in the Green Bin
All certified compostable packaging, including PLA bioplastic lined cups and cutlery, are all acceptable alternatives. And the great news is that Hobart City Council is accepting all organic materials, including certified compostable packaging, in the residential Food Organics and Garden Organics bin – meaning customers can compost their food packaging at home in their green bin.
A Small Change, Makes a Big Difference
Switching to compostable packaging is a simple step that makes a big difference. An average cafe can avoid 2 tonnes of plastic and offset 6 tonnes of carbon emissions by choosing to use the below pictured BioPak products over 12 months. And in places like Hobart, the customer can compost the packaging at home.
