The PIDA Awards, or Packaging & Processing Innovation and Design Awards, recognise excellence and innovation in packaging and processing design. These awards are open to companies and individuals who have developed a new and innovative packaging or processing solution. The PIDA Awards are held annually and are organised by the Australian Institute of Packaging, the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association, and the Packaging New Zealand Association. The awards are highly respected and provide a platform for businesses to showcase their achievements in the industry.
BioPak is delighted to have won two awards this year for our OzHarvest Christmas cups and our new home compostable Aqueous cups.
Labelling & Decoration Packaging Category - Gold Winner

BioPak is proud to have been awarded the Labelling and Decoration Design of the Year PIDA award for our Christmas BioCups designed in collaboration with OzHarvest. The cups featured Australian animals dressed in festive attire and a prominent yellow panel with the recognisable OzHarvest logo. They included a QR code that directed consumers to donate to OzHarvest, spreading awareness about their work and raising money to help those in need during the holiday season. The campaign sold over 500,000 units, raising funds that enabled OzHarvest to deliver an additional 7662 meals to local communities. The BioCups are printed using soy-based inks and are certified industrially compostable to AS4736 Australian standards.
“Our Christmas BioCup evokes the warm and fuzzy feeling of Christmas while alluding to the age-old saying that ‘Christmas is about giving, not receiving’. The message reads, “for the cost of a coffee, you can feed people in need”. After a few years of scanning QR codes during the pandemic, QR codes were deemed an easy way to elicit a call to action. The thought is that if you have enough disposable income to buy yourself a coffee, then you most likely have some extra funds to support someone in need this Christmas. “ – BioPak Marketing Team
*Please note these cups were only available during the 2022 holiday period and are no longer available for purchase. Stay tuned for next year’s design!
Sustainable Packaging Design Compostables - Silver

BioPak is excited to announce that we have won the Sustainable Packaging Design Compostables - Silver PIDA award 2023 for our innovative home compostable Aqueous cups. These cups made with FSC™ certified paper – paper sourced from managed plantations and not from old-growth forests. These cups are lined with Aqueous – a unique waterproof barrier coating that is now certified home compostable to Australian (AS5810) standards. Having home compostable cups means that consumers don’t have to rely on their council to provide organic waste bins and trust they will end up in industrial composting facilities – they can put their Aqueous BioCup and sugarcane lid right in their home compost bin.
The life cycle of our products is one of the most important things our team considers when designing products. We invest in understanding the environmental impact of the raw materials sourced, ensuring our products can be composted, understanding the business carbon emissions, and supporting the treatment at the end of life with our composting initiative, Compost Connect.
