What is the AFR’s Sustainability Leaders List?

The Sustainability Leaders list compiled by The Australian Financial Review highlights companies and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment and achievements in the realm of sustainability. This prestigious list recognizes industry leaders who are at the forefront of driving positive environmental change, implementing sustainable practices, and making significant contributions towards a more sustainable future. The Sustainability Leaders list serves as a platform to showcase the exemplary efforts and innovative approaches of these organisations, inspiring others to follow suit and further advance the global sustainability agenda.

Our Sustainability Commitments

At BioPak, our journey towards sustainability has been a continuous evolution. From our humble beginnings, we have consistently pursued improvement in our materials, expanded certifications for our manufacturing partners, and demonstrated a steadfast commitment to conducting business in a truly sustainable manner. Our dedication to sustainability is not just a buzzword; it is deeply ingrained in our core values and shapes every aspect of our operations. We constantly seek innovative solutions and embrace responsible practices to minimise our environmental impact. With a strong focus on transparency and accountability, we strive to educate and engage our customers, empowering them to make conscious choices for a greener future. Our sustainability commitments drive us forward, propelling us to achieve even greater milestones and create a positive impact on the world around us.

Compost Connect

The innovation BioPak entered for the AFR Sustainability Leaders List was our not for profit, composting initiative Compost Connect. Compost Connect is a composting network designed by BioPak. It is a product stewardship initiative to close the loop on our compostable packaging and divert as much food waste and compostable packaging from landfill as possible. As a producer of food service packaging, BioPak sought a responsible end-of-life solution for our packaging and the organic contents that are often served in them; food. We created Compost Connect to close the loop on compostable packaging and connect foodservice businesses directly with industrial composting facilities. Our goal is to create a world with zero waste. We have forged the path with our compostable packaging, however, composting infrastructure still has a long way to go in Australia. Compost Connect was created to help our compostable packaging reach its optimum end of life and thereby fulfil our zero waste goals. In the last 2 years, we have launched Compost Connect in three countries – Australia, New Zealand and the UK, adding 269 foodservice businesses that champion composting to our Compost Club Map. Together, these businesses have diverted over 4000 tonnes of organic waste from landfill which has avoided the generation of 2,041 tonnes of carbon emissions.
