The Challenge

To match their farming philosophy, the team at Gazegill Organics was searching for plastic-free meat packaging; they wanted to ensure their packaging aligned with their ethos. The challenge was to find packaging that could hold their raw meat while it was transported to customers but also enable customers to store their meat inside the packaging once its delivered. They needed something that is sturdy and could be stored in a freezer or refrigerator to keep the meat as fresh as possible.

The Solution

Gazegill Organics are committed to natural organic farming and were seeking a sustainable meat packaging solution. They turned to BioPak for an alternative to the commonly used single-use plastic packaging. We introduced them to our BioCane containers, made from sugarcane pulp, a rapidly renewable by-product of the sugar refining industry.

Sugarcane pulp, or Bagasse, is an environmentally responsible paper alternative that can be shaped into sturdy and versatile containers. These containers are refrigerator and freezer-friendly, making them a perfect packaging solution for meat products.

By adopting BioCane containers, Gazegill Organics has reduced their environmental impact and provided their customers with a reliable and eco-friendly meat packaging option. This approach aligns with Gazegill Organic’s natural organic farming ethos and demonstrates their commitment to sustainability.

BioCane is plastic-free and can be used to package a variety of products. Gazegill Organics is a perfect example of an organic meat supplier swapping to a plant-based meat packaging alternative by using BioCane Containers to package their sausages and burgers. They are committed to reducing their waste in the community and are determined to work towards creating a more sustainable future.

As the single-use plastic ban comes into place in the UK near the end of the year, it's important for more meat suppliers and butchers to start looking for polystyrene alternative meat packaging. Our BioCane produce tray is a perfect replacement for plastic meat packaging trays, we also offer BioCane Containers that can package meat neatly ready to be sold while also keeping your products fresh. Positive impact

By switching from conventional plastic packaging to BioPak packaging made from plants, Gazegill was able to make a significant positive impact.

Over one year of using BioPak packaging, Gazegill was able to avoid 1000 kg of single-use plastic packaging and the 822 litres of crude oil that would have been used to make it.
