BioPak Signs The New Zealand Plastic Packaging Declaration

New Zealand plastic packaging declaration

2018 has been a year of big commitments! We are proud to announce that BioPak has joined as a signatory to the New Zealand Plastic Packaging Declaration. BioPak is dedicated to stopping plastic pollution and we’re doing our part by offering compostable alternatives (made from rapidly renewable, sustainably sourced materials) to fossil fuel-based plastic used in foodservice.

The New Zealand Plastic Packaging Declaration is an initiative led by the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment with signatories committing to using 100 per cent reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging in their New Zealand operations by 2025 or earlier.

We have chosen to join the declaration as we strongly support this cause and have operations in New Zealand.

Our NZ commitments are:

  • Using 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging by 2025 or earlier
  • Raising awareness amongst consumers and brand owners about the environmental impact of single-use plastic food-service packaging and promoting non-plastic alternatives
  • Promoting reusables as the most sustainable and preferred solution wherever possible
  • Educating consumers and brand owners about the environmental impact of single-use disposables
  • Adopting the new Australasian recycling label to support customers in the disposing of packaging correctly and efficiently
  • Working together with industry bodies, local councils, waste collectors and the recycling industry to ensure products that are compostable and recyclable are being recycled and composted locally.
  • Phasing out all remaining fossil-based plastic products in our portfolio by 2020
