Straws are essential in food service. Due to the immense damage plastic straws are known to cause to the environment, more cafes and restaurants are switching to paper straws – a much more responsible option to serve your delicious drinks with! In a perfect world, we would eliminate straws altogether; however, we know some customers still enjoy using straws, and some drinks, like bubble tea, require a straw to be consumed. Fortunately, we have the perfect solution – sturdy, eco straws made from FSC™ certified paper. 

It’s important to remember that not all paper drinking straws are created equal. Some paper straws feature a plastic lining, which means they are only suitable for landfill and cannot be composted like our BioStraws. Others are made from virgin paper pulp or other uncertified paper. Make sure you research when purchasing straws and ask the packaging company what materials are used to make the product. Why Plastic Straws Are Harmful To The Environment

Plastic straw bans are now a global movement, with consumers becoming aware of the negative impact that they have on ocean ecosystems and how they contribute massive amounts to landfill. After their useful life of about 20 minutes, plastic straws are discarded – ending up in landfill, at best, or more likely, in our oceans, where they are ingested by marine life, causing the plastic to make its way up the food chain. Plastic never completely breaks down but rather just becomes smaller and smaller. Some food for thought – every single piece of plastic you’ve ever used in your life still exists and will outlive your children’s, children’s, children.

The Solution: Compostable Paper Straws 

Our compostable straws do not have any coating. We use premium, extra-strength 3-ply paper to ensure the straws maintain their integrity while being used. The total paper weight of the three layers is 350 grams per square metre (gsm), (135gsm + 135gsm + 80gsm).

Sizes, Shapes and Colours

These eco-friendly disposable straws are available in three sizes – Cocktail, Regular, Jumbo and straight and bendy shapes (flexible drinking straws). We also offer individually wrapped or unwrapped straws. Our regular paper straws now come individually wrapped and help avoid the spread of germs while providing customers with a hygienic way to enjoy their drinks.
