Eco-Friendly Takeaway Cups

Looking to buy disposable coffee cups online? Not all paper coffee cups are created equal. Traditional takeaway coffee cups are often made with paper from old-growth forests and conventional plastic derived from fossil fuels.

Aqueous hot BioCups are certified home compostable to Australian Standards (AS5810). With our home compostable coffee cup lids, you can put your cup and lid right in your home compost bin to break down and have a completely home compostable solution!

We also offer BioPak paper cups made from premium paper and lined with Ingeo™ – a bioplastic made from plants, not oil. These single wall takeaway cups are printed with non-toxic, environmentally-friendly water or soy-based inks and are made with heavy-duty premium-quality paperboard to give our insulated coffee cups superior stability, insulation and lid fit. Our bioplastic and bioplastic-lined premium paper cups are certified industrially compostable to Australian Standards AS4736.

Not sure whether our single wall coffee cups or double wall coffee cups are the right disposable coffee cup for your needs? Single wall cups require less energy and paper to manufacture compared to double wall cups. Transport-related emissions are reduced by the lower weight and more compact carton size of the single wall cup. Learn about the difference between single wall and double wall coffee cups in our blog.

Why We Need to Stop Using Plastic-Lined Coffee Cups

It is estimated that the world uses 500 billion plastic cups yearly, with 16 billion paper cups comprising that total. This is an extraordinary amount of packaging that ultimately ends up in landfills. The use of the term ‘biodegradable’ when discussing packaging can be misleading to consumers as almost anything is ‘biodegradable’ along with single-use plastic items; they will degrade over time in the environment, however, will break down into microplastics. In addition, there is no independent certification for biodegradable items or any regulation for using this term.

Choose Compostable Cups Instead

For BioPak, ‘biodegradable’ was not a total solution to the world’s massive waste problem. Instead, we sought a circular solution and created our certified compostable cups. Composting is a responsible end-of-life solution for our products. On top of this, we have created a platform called Compost Connect to help cafes and restaurants find industrial compost partners to collect not only our certified compostable packaging but their food waste as well.

Our packaging is also accepted in some Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) bins across the country. We recommend contacting your local council to confirm what is accepted in your residential bins. BioPak also donates 5% of profits from all sales of disposable cups, along with all our other products, to positive change.
