Why We Support This Charity

BioPak is delighted to announce its collaboration with MedEarth, a charity dedicated to recovering medical waste destined for landfill, and then redistributing it as humanitarian aid to positively impact lives across developing countries. This partnership demonstrates the shared commitment of BioPak and MedEarth to protecting the environment and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it.

About The Charity

Saving lives. Saving the planet.

MedEarth champions environmental protection and humanitarian aid through a robust waste reduction program. They repurpose and redistribute medical supplies and equipment discarded by the healthcare industry, bridging the resource gap between developed and developing countries.

We’re living in a world where:

  • One billion people survive on less than US$1 a day
  • Over 2.6 billion lack access to basic sanitation facilities
  • Every day, over 30,000 children under five years of age succumb to preventable ailments, such as dehydration and malnutrition

It’s clear we need to address this global crisis.

Low and middle-income countries bear the brunt of 90% of the world's diseases while having only 12% of the world's health expenditures. Developing nations, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, grapple with a glaring lack of resources, particularly in healthcare.

MedEarth believes that access to quality healthcare shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for high-income countries. Healthcare is not just a basic human right, but also a cornerstone of socio-economic development.

That’s why MedEarth, a nonprofit organisation, is dedicated to saving lives and the environment by recovering usable medical supplies and equipment and redistributing them as humanitarian aid throughout developing countries.

MedEarth's Accomplishments

Every $10 donation allows MedEarth to recover $1,000 of usable medical equipment and supplies.

A $200 donation can help recover medical equipment and supplies to save over 70 infants per year.

In 2022, MedEarth redistributed recovered medical items (otherwise destined for landfill) weighing 17 tonnes, totalling 130 m3 and worth $711,000. These items went to under-resourced communities in Tonga, Nigeria, Burundi, Uganda, Ukraine and Zambia where they’re making a huge difference to the lives of their patients.

In 2023, MedEarth responded to the devastating earthquake in Türkiye that left thousands of people injured and many homeless. They packed 19 pallets weighing over 2,000kg filled with medical items, blankets, and sleeping bags, making a meaningful impact during a challenging time.

They also worked with Fesidev Australia packing a remarkable 2,500kg of vital medical equipment and supplies worth a total of $70,000 headed for Uganda. Among the items were 2 ventilators and mobility aid products, all aimed at enhancing patients' dignity in the country. This collaboration is a response to the pressing healthcare challenges faced by Uganda, as the World Health Organization ranked its healthcare system 149th out of 191 countries.

In 2023, MedEarth marked a remarkable milestone thanks to their equipment donors, including hospitals, clinics, private practices and individuals, who provided over 100 generous donations totalling around $1 million worth of medical items that would otherwise have gone to landfill. This is a testament to their incredible commitment to reduce landfill and provide life-changing medical items to those in need.

Our Impact

BioPak joined forces with MedEarth in 2023 and through our partnership, we have a positive impact on 133,515 lives. We’re proud to increase MedEarth's financial capacity, enabling them to go out and recover more medical supplies for redistribution. For every $1 donation we make, we will positively impact 10 lives.

Through our Give Back Fund, as well as our fundraising and product donations for the Trails For Change event, we’ve donated to the protection of our environment and helped provide better access to quality healthcare in developing countries.
