Australia’s favourite doughnut shop is showing their commitment to sustainability, by switching out some single-use plastic items for compostable alternatives.
Krispy Kreme Packaging Now Better For The Environment
Coffee and doughnuts are arguably one of the best combos, especially for an afternoon pick-me-up. But in recent years, single-use drink cups have gained attention for being huge pollutants to the environment. In 2006, BioPak sought to solve this problem by creating an industrially compostable coffee cup, eventually leading to a whole range of compostable foodservice packaging. More recently, BioPak has created a composting initiative called Compost Connect to connect food service businesses directly to industrial composters.
Krispy Kreme Australia's cold cups used for iced coffee and milkshakes are now supplied by BioPak. Our cold BioCups are made from Ingeo™, a bioplastic made from starchy plants like corn. These cups are certified industrially compostable to Australian Standards 4736.

Krispy Kreme’s Straws Are Also Compostable
Like many foodservice businesses, Krispy Kreme has decided to ditch the pesky plastic straw, replacing it with our red and white striped jumbo BioStraw. Our paper straws are a great alternative to plastic straws as they will naturally biodegrade in the environment and not disrupt wildlife and will break down in your home compost. They are made from 3-ply premium grade FSC™️ (License code FSC™️ C110879) certified paper sourced from managed plantations. Plus, they’re customisable, although these red and white straws already fit Krispy Kreme’s brand colours!
