BioPak was excited to be approached by Planet Smoothie Australia franchisee Wally Ibrahim to design custom smoothie cups for a great customer experience.
How We Designed Custom Smoothie Cups for Planet Smoothie
The Brief
Wally from Planet Smoothie Australia provided a clear brief and expectations for their new cups.
“I contacted BioPak to source a cup that could support a beverage drink around 50% ice-based. All the previous cup companies I tried just couldn’t assist with their cold cup options. When I spoke with the team at BioPak, I appreciated their honesty regarding not having something that would work for us but would be more than happy to source and design something that would. The Design Process
The cup is a unique offering that we don't currently offer in our generic range. Planet Smoothie Australia wanted a cold cup that dispersed the cold temperature like our double wall cups does for heat.
We created this unique 2-layer double wall concept that disperses the cold temperature so holding the cup does cause discomfort with cold drinks. Because the corrugation of the second layer is so exaggerated, we called this a ‘ripple wall cup’. We can still print completely on the cup without losing legibility due to the double wall. The cup is lined double-sided on the inside layer only.
The Result
BioPak was able to successfully design and deliver a cold cup that suited the needs of Planet Smoothies drinks.

Why Eco-Friendly Smoothie Cups Are Better

Most takeaway drink cups are lined with conventional plastic derived from fossil fuels. The lining in any takeaway cup is designed to protect your cup from crumbling; without a lining, a cup is just paper that absorbs liquid and becomes soft.
From the beginning, BioPak has taken an alternative, more eco-friendly approach to takeaway cups by lining them with bioplastic made from plants. Not only are the emissions of producing a bioplastic a lot less than fossil fuel plastic, but because these cups are made entirely from plants, they are 100% industrially compostable, making them a whole lot better for the planet.
