Spudz-Get Loaded: Potatoes With A Sustainable Difference

Spudz-Get Loaded are champions of compostable packaging

BioPak x Spudz-Get Loaded

Spudz-Get Loaded is a food truck all about potatoes!

We chatted to Romeo, the owner of Spudz-Get Loaded all about their journey to sustainability, and why this is so important to them.

Who are you and what do you guys do?

We are Spudz-Get Loaded! We’re a healthy, quick service, loaded baked potato concept. Spudz-Get Loaded was founded by myself, Mehmet Ovelek (Romeo) in November 2018. We started serving customers at U.S Military Installations in the UK, and then branched out to US Military Installations in Germany, and Italy (due to the high demand)!

We only had 2 team members when we opened, and we’re now at over 50 team members serving at our branches and head office. We now have 6 Food Trucks, 3 Store locations in Europe and we’ve just opened our new food truck in Fort Belvoir Military Base, Virgina in the U.S.

When did you start using compostable packaging, and what sparked this decision?

We have been using compostable and recyclable packaging since the first day in business in April 2019. We started using compostable packaging as we wanted to contribute to our environment and to help leave a better future to next generations. We wanted to be environmentally conscious from Day 1!

Where did you hear about us at BioPak?

I was introduced to Sam Walker and learned about BioPak that way. His customer service and care (along with Holli Haines who took over from Sam) is still the reason why we choose to work with Biopak today.

What makes our products a good fit for your business?

Sustainability, quality and stock availability of Biopak’s products makes it a good fit for us.

If you had to choose one, what’s your favourite product of ours and why?

We love those wooden forks! We love that they are 100% compostable and much more reliable to eat with than plastic forks.

If there’s one word you could use to describe your experience with us, what would it be?

Exceptional!

Do you find that your customers are interested in hearing about your packaging, where it’s come from and the benefits it has on the environment?

Yes, definitely. Customers are becoming more and more aware of environmentally friendly packaging. We actually advertise our packaging on the graphics on our food trucks and shop designs, making people aware that they should look out for more environmentally conscious products in other businesses.

Are there any tips you could give companies that perhaps haven’t made the switch to plastic-free products, or maybe are thinking about it but aren’t sure where to start?

We would say just go for it! Any plastic-free products look way better than the actual plastic ones and they really help with the presentability and visibility of your product to potential customers. From our experience, we receive a number of posts everyday with people sharing our well presented food on these environmentally friendly, beautiful packaging.
