BioPak has recently declared a Climate Emergency and is committed to taking immediate action on climate change. We strongly believe that we need to decouple our economy from fossil fuels, and using renewable material alternatives for packaging is one way to move in that direction.
As a result, we are constantly striving to eradicate single-use conventional plastic within the market by making plant-based packaging more accessible. We have made a global commitment to phase out plastics made from finite fossil resources like PS, PE and PET by the end of 2025. Instead, we’re opting for rapidly-renewable resources and materials like PLA, otherwise known as Polylactic acid and FSC™️ (License code FSC™ C110879) certified Birchwood.
These materials are designed for the circular economy, as they can be turned into rich compost, which is then used to grow more plants. This can be achieved by ensuring that used packaging is processed at an industrial compost facility, where large quantities of organic waste can be handled under controlled conditions.
The great news is that compostable packaging is the perfect vessel to also divert food waste from landfill and both "wastes" can be placed into a single bin to be recycled into nutrient-rich compost. This has a significant impact on fighting climate change as organic waste in landfill produces methane, a greenhouse gas 28 times more potent than CO2.
BioPak is constantly striving to educate and assist the conscious consumer in order to achieve our goal of creating a circular economy. The phase-out will come into effect in the next coming months.
