Home Compostable Sugarcane Pulp Cup Lids

The innovation BioPak has been recognised for was our home compostable sugarcane pulp cup lids. We believe that these sustainable lids are one of the products that will help us eliminate the ubiquitous polystyrene lids that end up in landfill.

Our sugarcane pulp cup lids have many applications, they match and fit hot and cold cups used by cafes, coffee roasters and QSR businesses that sell coffee, milkshakes and slurpees. The already environmentally friendly hot and cold paper cups and sugarcane pulp cup lids are the perfect sustainable solution for food and beverage companies.

Sugarcane pulp, also known as bagasse, is the fibrous material that remains after the sugarcane plant is harvested for its juice. This agricultural byproduct has many applications, one of which is moulding it into packaging that looks just like cardboard. Our sugarcane pulp lids are certified home and industrially-compostable to Australian standards (AS4738/AS5810) and are PFAS free, making them a compelling sustainable alternative to conventional plastic packaging.

How about paper based lids? These are also a great sustainable alternative. But, whilst certified paper lids can also be composted, the advantage of bagasse products is that they are made from a reclaimed rapidly renewable byproduct, not trees. As such, plant fibre lids don’t have the same environmental impact as paper lids.

What’s more, they feel great! Our sugarcane pulp lids are designed to hold onto cups firmly with a leak-proof seal every time and no cardboard taste. They also have the distinctive snap-like feel clients like.

If you make the switch from single-use plastic packaging that’s made from fossil resources to bagasse products, you can make a big difference! If a large QSR company swapped out 10 million conventional plastic lids to sugarcane pulp BioCane alternative they would avoid 37,400 kgs of fossil-fuel plastics, offset 83,478 kgs of carbon emissions and if all were composted at home, the organic waste would create 25,900 kgs of nutrient-rich soil which in return sequesters even more carbon from the atmosphere, ultimately reversing climate change.
