KiwiHarvest’s Accomplishments
Every month KiwiHarvest rescues 170,000 - 200,000Kg of good quality surplus food, and diverts this back to people who are struggling across New Zealand. The organisation, operating across New Zealand, has made a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and landfill waste across the country. KiwiHarvest also does a very important job of educating businesses and individuals about food waste and its environmental impact.
Since its inception in 2012, KiwiHarvest has rescued over 15 million kilograms of food, the equivalent of approximately 33.6 million meals, helping to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and landfill waste across New Zealand. In addition to redistributing food, the organisation plays a vital role in raising awareness around food waste and educating businesses and individuals about its environmental and social impact.
2024 marked KiwiHarvest’s biggest year yet, with an impressive 3 million kilograms of food saved from landfill and redirected to feed tens of thousands of families nationwide. Since launching, they’ve rescued and delivered food valued at over $100 million — food that was once considered waste but has instead provided nourishment and relief to countless households struggling to put meals on the table.
While KiwiHarvest continues to work tirelessly to support communities in need, the demand for food support is now at an all-time high. A recent survey revealed that 500,000 people in New Zealand are seeking help to feed their families, the highest number ever recorded. Government reports also show that 1 in 4 children live in homes where food runs out. This escalating crisis is placing immense pressure on KiwiHarvest, and they urgently need your support to keep up with the growing need.
