Pie Face was looking for ways to serve the pie and salad combo and our innovation-led design team came up with the perfect solution; a beautiful custom curve-shaped takeaway box with two unique compartments to best present and eat the pie and side dish. We also embossed their smiley face logo on the box to welcome and thank the customer with their iconic image on the lid and base under the pie.
"BioPak felt like an extension of our business, they understood our needs and brand and the results speak for themselves. We are also impressed by the rapid turn-around from initial discussion through to production."
- David Ovens, Global Chief Marketing Officer Pie Face.
We used sugarcane pulp, a sturdy oil and water-resistant material made from a starch by-product from the sugar refining industry, making these containers tree-free with zero deforestation. We prefer sugarcane pulp to paper as the raw material is fast growing and rapidly renewable. BioPak sugarcane containers are designed to be commercially compostable and recyclable in the paper waste stream, diverting waste from landfill. Making sugarcane products also creates less CO2 emissions than tree-based paper products and they are Elemental Chlorine Free (ECF).
"Pie Face chose to partner with BioPak because they produce innovative design solutions in the most sustainable plant-based packaging materials on offer, helping us replace packaging made from non-renewable fossil-based resources. They have helped us better present our brand both visually and ethically."

BioPak products are simply designed better. Our products embody resource efficiency and are designed to minimise the use of finite raw resources. We seek out materials that are bio-based and rapidly renewable. Our documented sustainable procurement policy reinforces our commitment to protect the environment, preventing pollution and waste, whilst encouraging recycling and minimisation of material and energy usage. BioPak products are also designed to be up-cycled via recycling or commercial composting, and while recycling and composting infrastructure need more time to catch up, BioPak products still produce 75% fewer greenhouse emissions even if they end up in a landfill.
BioPak products are produced in facilities certified to ISO 14001 environmental standards and all raw materials are responsibly sourced. BioPak materials are selected based on science and incorporate a whole-of-life cycle approach, taking into account all resources consumed and the environmental impact at each stage during the life cycle of our products. At BioPak we offset the carbon emissions associated with the production, transport and disposal of all our products.
