At BioPak, we take great pride in partnering with events and initiatives that prioritize environmental responsibility and sustainability. One such event that embodies these values is WOMADelaide, a world-renowned music and arts festival held annually in Botanic Park, Adelaide. The festival embraces its role as a custodian of the environment and has worked tirelessly to minimize its ecological footprint while offering a world-class experience to attendees.

Cultivating Global Harmony Through Music and Art

WOMADelaide celebrates the convergence of global cultures through music, art, and community engagement. With the privilege of using the park, the festival acknowledges its responsibility to protect and preserve the natural beauty of the area.

Reusable and Compostable Cups: A Path to Waste Reduction

Championing waste minimization, WOMADelaide has pioneered sustainability efforts by replacing disposable cups with reusable and compostable alternatives. Through this initiative, the festival prevented the use of over 150,000 single-use cups, eliminating more than 1.25 tonnes of plastic waste. Spearheaded by the WOMADelaide Cup Squad and Bettercup, this endeavour showcases the festival's unwavering commitment to reducing its ecological footprint.

WOMADelaide is committed to achieving a zero-waste-to-landfill status. Currently diverting 97.5% of waste away from landfills, the festival's waste management strategy focuses on using biodegradable and recyclable materials. Compostable cups, utensils, and packaging are mandated, and waste is sorted on-site to ensure proper disposal.

Circular Economy in Action

Continuing its dedication to sustainability, WOMADelaide introduced fully compostable cups to its bars in 2014. Furthermore, by offering reusable cups and water bottles, the festival actively promotes circular economy practices. Eliminating the sale of single-use plastic bottles underscores its steadfast commitment to curbing plastic pollution and fostering a more sustainable environment.

The synergy between its partnership with Greening Australia, waste reduction initiatives, and overall commitment to sustainability showcases the festival's profound impact on the environment.
