Our range of cups are either Certified Industrially Compostable to Australian Standards (AS4736) or Certified Home Compostable to Australian Standards (AS5810). Certified Home Compostable Cups
We currently have two types of Certified Home Compostable coffee cups: Aqueous and PHA.
Our Aqueous cups are made with a unique water-based coating and are Certified Home Compostable to AS5810 standards. The coating is printed like water-based ink, allowing it to be absorbed into the paper fibres rather than sitting on top as an additional layer. This reduces the amount of material needed, while providing the same leak and grease-proof benefits as other coatings.
Hailed as the future of sustainable cups, PHA is made from renewable plant sugars and vegetable oils. It’s the first home compostable coffee cup that doesn’t contain any fossil fuel-based plastic. The Australian home compostable certification (AS5810) is currently underway.
Hot Paper Cups
Your search for the best hot paper coffee cups ends here. BioPak paper cups for coffee and hot drinks are made with heavy-duty, premium paperboard. Then they’re lined with either:
- PLA Bioplastic – a bioplastic made from plants like corn and cassava
- Aqueous – a water-based dispersion coating
- PHA – a lining made from renewable resources, like plant sugars and vegetable oils
We see these disposable cup linings as a more sustainable option than regular paper cups, often lined with plastic derived from fossil fuels.
Single Wall or Double Wall Cups – What’s the Difference?
The difference is simple: single wall coffee cups have one layer of paper, while double wall cups have two. Single wall cups are a lightweight, sustainable and cost-effective option. Double wall cups feature an extra layer of paperboard, making them ideal for extra hot drinks like long blacks.
Cold Cups
We offer two types of Cold BioCups: clear cups and paper cold cups.
Our clear cups are available as a Green Stripe BioCup or Unbranded BioCup. Both are certified commercially compostable to Australian Standards (AS4736).
Our cold paper cups are available in leaf print, green gradient print, white, mixed colours and printed beer paper cups. These are lined with bioplastic and Certified Industrially Compostable to Australian Standards (AS4736).

Reusable Cups
Although they’re not considered ‘disposable cups’, we’ve recently expanded our range to include Huskee Reusable Cups and Lids. They're designed for long-term use, helping to minimise environmental impact by reducing the need for disposable takeaway cup alternatives.
What About ‘Eco-Friendly Cups’?
Our customers often refer to our takeaway cups as ‘eco-friendly cups’. However, we choose to steer away from this phrase to prevent greenwashing. Instead, we opt for phrases like Certified Compostable Cups, which can be substantiated and backed up by certifications.
